First Things First - The Intros

Every now and then I get a wedding enquiry that blows my socks off. Jennie and Paul got in touch off the back of meeting me in September at The Unwedding Show in Sheffield - a haven for all alternative wedding things, and a crowd of suppliers I am always so excited to work with. This first contact was highly unusual, in that no date or venue had yet been totally secured, and I was to learn this was the first of many unusual (and awesome) choices J+P would make for their wedding.

The Awesome Choices of Jennie and Paul

For brevity’s sake, this is going to be a list. Here goes.

  • Getting ready in the same location.

  • A not-white or ivory wedding dress.

  • Referring to bridesmaids as Women of Honour (I adore this) and allowing them to choose their own dresses, with the only instruction being the colour pink.

  • Pink converse!

  • 2 ceremonies - one after the other. A legal one, followed by a quick handfasting while Jennie’s dad did a reading.

  • Short speeches while everyone was still seated after the handfasting.

  • Jennie writing and performing a song for Paul.

  • Jennie’s friends singing throughout the ceremony.

  • A quick game of rounders! Why not?!

  • Pop punk for the first dance - and the next 10 after.

  • An impromptu conga to Feliz Navidad.

  • An impromptu group dance to My Way, by Frank Sinatra.

Some excellent people were involved. Here they are.
