Your Questions Answered

Here are some of the frequently asked questions about my family photography sessions and service. If you’d like to ask a question that’s not on here, feel free to email me at hello@carolinegoosey.com.

is your family photography right for us?

If you’re interested in capturing authentic moments then absolutely! Genuine connection is my primary goal, so I offer a highly personal service that helps me to draw out the moments you’ll want to remember. I do this by talking to you on the phone to get to know you, and taking my time during the session.

Posing makes me uncomfortable. Is that ok?

In short, yes. I’ve found lots of ways to get great family photos without having to contort anybody into a pose. Cheesy grins are completely banned from my sessions (unless that’s really how you smile!).

I’m much more interested in creating genuine moments of connection, and capturing that.

What area do you cover?

I work as a family photographer in Matlock, Belper, Derby, Chesterfield and Nottingham. Occasionally I get requests to travel further afield, and have done family portraits in London and near Manchester. Once I’m travelling out of Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire and Derbyshire I charge a travel at a rate of 45p per mile.

What's your style?

I’m seriously chilled in my approach. In photographer speak I do environmental portraits, which means I take photos of people outside of a studio. I don’t bring any lighting kit with me and I try not to intrude too much. Instead I gently direct families (that includes parents) by giving suggestions for interaction that I believe will be enjoyable for you, and therefore get you all smiling.

My photography is candid, fun, and informal.

My kids are crazy.

Mine too! Crazy kids are the best.

Where can we have our Session?

The short answer is wherever you want! I primarily work in family homes, but I also love getting outdoors. Whether it’s bouncing on the trampoline, going puddle hunting or traipsing through a forest, I’m up for it.

We want an outdoor session but weather...

One of the many joys of living in Britain is the weather – said no one ever. If the weather’s unexpectedly rubbish on the day of your session then we’ll play it by ear. Fine drizzle isn’t a problem for me, so long as you’re properly kitted out so you won’t feel miserable.

If it’s snowing heavily or raining constantly then we’ll either have the session in your home or reschedule.

Can we spread the cost of a session?

Hell yes! You can pay in two instalments if that works for you. Any downloads and physical orders will be placed once the final payment lands in my account.

We want more than digital images

My basic package covers only digital files, but my top package includes prints too! If you aren’t bothered at all about the digital files, then 5×7 prints are available for £10 each. There’s a minimum spend of £200 if you’re purchasing like this.

How do we get our photos?

After your session I hole myself up in my office and edit your gallery until you it has at least 30 images I’m properly chuffed with. This bit takes 1-2 weeks.

I then stick them in an online gallery and you can download the whole lot. If you want you can choose to have your images on a USB, and if you want something really special you can purchase a special wooden keepsake box with your digital files on the USB and 30 6×4 prints.

My mum's cousin's best friend's daughter wants a session

I looove referrals. If you have a session with me and then refer someone else on to me, you get a complimentary 10×8 print from your when they book in.

How do we book you?

You can get in touch with me on my booking form. Once we’ve had a chat on the phone I’ll send you a contract to fill in and an invoice for your session. Once you’ve returned the contract and paid then you’re all booked in.
