As a kid, I lived on the perfect road. A short, windy cul-de-sac with a roundabout at the bottom, made up of a small hill with a cluster of spindly silver birch trees that peeled every summer. Practically every other house had kids, all born in the 80s. Despite going to different schools, we all called on each other to play day in, day out. And that is how I know Amanda.
I hadn’t seen her in about 24 years, but she responded to a video I posted on Facebook last year. I was looking for a few couples who were prepared to take a chance with me – free photography in exchange for portfolio building. Amanda and Liam took that chance.
Relaxed wedding photography for a relaxed couple
The more I heard about Amanda and Liam’s wedding the more I began to love the sound of it. Not small, but not huge, very laid back, and in a beautiful location. We met up for an engagement session in the sunshine to put their on-camera nerves at ease and get used to working together.
I love the energy this family has. They’re low key and funny, warm and silly – and Amanda is without doubt the same person I knew as a little kid. (Maybe with a splash more pinot than back then.)
The wedding day itself was a beautiful occasion, with so many thoughtful little details and touches. It was amazing to see someone I had once played with as a young child get married. The love between them is undeniable – and yes, I may have cried a little when Liam’s son read a poem he’d written himself during the ceremony. I cannot express just how much I enjoyed providing relaxed wedding photography for this awesome couple.
