A tiny wedding at Shiningford Farm, Peak District

Have I mentioned how much I love the Peak District? No? Well let’s go into that a little shall we?

Jess and Ash got married in an intimate ceremony at Bakewell Registry Office, and had a small reception with their closest family members at Shiningford Farm. It was a warm, clear spring day - a blessing after a week of rain, and what felt like the longest winter we’ve ever faced. Aside from the global goings-on, these two had never planned on having a big wedding. In fact, the only impact the pandemic had on their plans was that they chose to move the date by just a few days, so that they could size up from 6 to 15 guests.

Shiningford Farm is a group of 3 cottages, nestled in the woodland by Carsington Water. It’s totally hidden - you wouldn’t even suspect it’s there until you’re literally staring down on it! I first saw this venue in my former life as a Wine Shop Wench, when I was delivering a vanful of champagne there the day before a wedding. Even back then I remember thinking what a beautiful location it makes for a celebration. There’s a lovely outdoor area, perfect for chilling out in the evening by a firepit, a good size courtyard and a swimming pool. If I was ever planning on having a wedding in the Peak District, Shiningford would definitely be on my list.

Jess and Ash were very keen to celebrate in their own way, and that meant up-ending some traditions. They got ready separately, but had a first look before travelling to their ceremony together. After that, the three of us headed up onto Curbar Edge for some photos of just the two of them, before returning to Shinining for cake cutting and speeches.

The wedding was entirely homespun - Jess is a cakemaker herself so all the catering was down to her, and it was delicious! (I highly recommend checking her cakes out if you’re in the area - www.cushwaycakes.co.uk.
